About

We are born with an ability to grow into our best selves. But childhood trauma and loss often interfere and we become stuck in a cycle of pain. I am an eclectic therapist with 30+ years of experience. I use techniques like EMDR, EFT or Trauma-Focused CBT but recognize they are only tools and NOT the therapy. Therapy is a process of authenticity and awareness where the client and therapist partner to reactivate the client's inner guidance and healing system. I believe I was born a therapist. Caring and understanding others have always been natural parts of me. I believe each of us is born My approach is very humanistic, deeply compassionate, and totally nonjudgmental. I believe in creating a safe space. Healing occurs only if the therapist and client can develop a trusting and positive connection. Having done my own work, I know that change is hard, and often painful but, unlike the pain of our "symptoms", it is the path to our greater self. 845 417-5060 richardsmithlcsw@earthlink.net
